Why your body is not a machine

Online calculators, fitness trackers and similar tools can all provide a starting point if you are completely stuck with how much food you need but they shouldn’t be taken as gospel. Trial and error will always be needed and there is no ‘perfect diet.’ Some days we are hungrier than others, sometimes we have cravings for certain foods and other times we don’t. Our lifestyles and preferences can also change over time so it’s so important to stay mindful and flexible to ensure that we can adjust things when required.

Making decisions about food can be hard but it doesn’t have to be that way forever. It can be tempting to follow strict rules that tell you what to do but they aren’t sustainable.

With practice, making your own choices about what and how much you eat becomes much easier and doesn’t involve guilt, anxiety or judgement. Just keep on putting one foot in front of the other and over time it will pay off.
