Why you gained weight overnight
Gaining weight is not a big deal. Despite what society says, you are not a failure for gaining weight, regardless of the reason. I'm not a big fan of using the scale, especially on a daily basis. However, if you are weighing yourself it is important to understand the different reasons that the scale may go up overnight so that you can be more objective about it. Here are 3 common ones:⠀ ⠀ 1. You ate a late meal: When you wake up in the morning, you still have food in your stomach from the previous day, especially if you ate late at night. There is nothing wrong with eating at any time of the day that feels good for you. However, if you are weighing in the next day, be aware that the scale will likely be up and that is totally normal.
2. You had a hard workout: Working out in a stress on the body and means hormones like cortisol are released, which causes us to retain water. This isn't a bad thing, it is a totally normal response to exercise and is actually correlated with many of the benefits that we get. If you have had a hard session the day before, the scale may well be up the next day. Don't panic, your body is just doing its thing to help you recover.
3. You are stressed: Similarly to exercise (a physical stress), mental stress can also mean that we release cortisol and retain water. Our brains can't really tell the difference between different types of stress so they get or bodies prepared whatever the reason. This should ease after a day or two as long as you make the time to chill out as much as you can. If stepping on the scale is a source of stress in itself, it might be time to give it up.
