The truth about ‘real food’

This is one of these phrases that is thrown around a lot in the health and fitness industry but yet is fairly meaningless.

We all know which foods are more nutrient dense than others. We don’t need reminding. However, there is no evidence that eating 100% nutrient dense foods is needed for optimum health.

Food is not just fuel, it is so much more. There is a place for all foods in our diet, should we choose them. No need to label them as ‘clean’, ‘good’, ‘bad’, ‘real’ etc. Food is to be enjoyed and that means having treats sometimes.

To be happy and healthy, you need balance. As much as extremes are appealing, they’re neither necessary nor sustainable. Finding a place that feels good for you might take some trial and error but it’s so worth working towards.
