Real vs fake intuitive eating
There’s a lot of discussion about intuitive eating on social media. It’s great to see more interest in the approach but unfortunately there are still a lot of misunderstandings and misconceptions being spread. ⠀ Being clear about definitions is important. Giving credit to Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch who coined the term and the associated principles matters. This isn’t about being pedantic, exclusionary or dogmatic. It’s about about ensuring that an approach which aims to create freedom around food, exercise and bodies is not co-opted to do harm to individuals whilst making a profit. ⠀ Intuitive eating looks different for everyone but the underlying principles remain the same. Those are not up for debate. It’s not okay to use the term just because it’s ‘on trend’ if you aren’t in line with the philosophy.
