Intuitive eating for weight loss...

Recently I’ve had quite a lot of people approach me for coaching who want to use a non-diet approach as a way to lose weight. I don’t blame them for this, this is what happens when intuitive eating and other non-diet approaches get co-opted. There is no guarantee that when you start intuitive eating (or any other non-diet approach) that you will lose weight. You might stay about the same or you might gain weight. It depends on a whole host of factors, none of which you need to worry about. Your body will do its thing to get to it’s healthy and happy place. Wanting to lose weight is totally normal because we live within diet culture. You are not a bad person for feeling that pressure and having internalised it. However, we know from research that dieting is unsuccessful for over 80% of people and carries the risk of negative mental and physical health consequences. Ditching dieting is hard. It’s natural to feel a sense of loss because society tells you that it means ‘giving up’. What I can assure you is that when you embrace a non-diet approach, what you get back is so valuable that you’ll wish you jumped in sooner.
