Intuitive eating and nutrition

One of the ongoing misconceptions about intuitive eating is that it doesn’t value nutrition. That is not true at all, it’s explicitly acknowledged in the 10th principle: Gentle Nutrition. What’s often not talked about much is that if you are currently dieting, you are at greater risk of being deficient in micronutrients as a consequence of eating less total food. This holds true however ‘clean’ you’re eating. Conversely, if you’re eating intuitively, and thus not restricting calories, you’re a lot more likely to meet your nutritional needs without much effort. That’s not to say that there is no consideration at all but once you’ve gone through all the other steps of intuitive eating, you’re in a more balanced place, mentally and physically. This means you will naturally gravitate towards a balance that feels good for you.
