Intuitive eating and emotional eating

Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t believe that emotional eating is ‘bad’. We all eat for reasons other than hunger and that’s part of being human. Food is so much more than fuel and that should be celebrated. Both negative and positive emotions can cause us to eat. For example, chocolate might be something we turn to when we’re feeling down and cake is something we’re likely to have when we’re celebrating a special occasion. Whatever the reason, it’s important to check in to see what’s going on and make sure you have a range of emotional coping tools. If food is one of those tools, it is really not a big deal.
