How to deal with emotional eating
Contrary to popular belief, emotional eating isn’t necessarily bad. We all eat for reasons other than hunger and that’s part of being human.⠀
Both negative and positive emotions can cause us to eat. For example, chocolate might be something we turn to when we’re feeling down and cake is something we’re likely to have when we’re celebrating a special occasion.
In both of these instances, it’s important to be mindful of what you’re doing to ensure that it feels good. It’s also key to develop a range of strategies to deal with your emotions so that you aren’t reliant on food for this purpose.
When an instance of emotional eating occurs, it’s important to have self-compassion. Berating yourself is more likely to lead to subsequent overeating. The best thing you can do is just move on.⠀
