Food is not a ‘cheat’

Food should not be a big deal but so often, it doesn’t seem that way. Living in diet culture can make you feel that each decision about food has to be ‘perfect’, meeting all the rules, however restrictive. Anything that doesn’t meet that standard is perceived as being a failure. Food is not just fuel. It is not just nutrients and calories. It should be enjoyable, sociable and something that enhances your life. This means eating foods that keep you healthy and happy. This will be different for everyone and can vary in the same person day to day, season to season and year to year. Your needs and preferences are always shifting and that’s totally fine. Honour what your body wants today. Don’t overthink it. Don’t label it. Just eat, enjoy and move on with your life.
