Diet mentality vs intuitive eating: thoughts, emotions and actions
Food shouldn’t be a big deal but it often doesn’t seem that way. A diet mentality makes you feel that each decision about food has to be ‘perfect’, meeting all the rules, however restrictive. Anything that doesn’t meet that standard is perceived as being a failure. ⠀ This usually results in a ‘f**k it’ moment, eating foods deemed to be bad, often past satiety. This is followed by anxiety, judgement, guilt and an attempt to exert restriction and the cycle continues. It is possible to shift away from that mindset. It’s not easy. It takes self-compassion, an open mind and a willingness to try something different. It means recognising that living your life on a diet isn’t enjoyable and that you deserve more.
