3 steps to intuitive eating
Intuitive eating can seem really overwhelming because of the factors we feel like we have to consider. I believe that our choices about food should be as simple as possible. Here are 3 steps to help make intuitive eating as easy as possible:⠀ 1. Find out what you want: Intuitive eating is about choosing foods that feel good for you, rather than relying on rules. Although we might have plans in place of what we are gong to eat, it’s good to have some flexibility around this. This might mean choosing between a couple of options rather than making a decision from scratch. The key is that it should be what you really want to eat, not what you think you should eat. ⠀ 2. Give yourself permission: This is one of the hardest aspects of intuitive eating. It is one thing to identify what you want to eat but a whole other thing to allow yourself to enjoy it, without anxiety, judgement or guilt. When you first start intuitive eating, you are likely to have a lot of doubts but if you trust yourself and the process, these will ease as you get more practice.
3. Take action and own it: Once you have given yourself permission, the next step is following through with it. This isn’t easy to do and you might find that you aren’t always able to. Don’t beat yourself up about it, our thought patterns can be so hard-wired that it takes a while to move past them. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and stay mindful about how your decisions about food make you feel. This is a trial and error process and all choices are just an opportunity to learn more about yourself.
